In order to gain a point of access to Internet sales and acquire customers, the City turned to Cogent’s fiber network in Atlanta via the main southeastern Data Centers. Cogent was the City’s first service provider, chosen due to Cogent’s affordable price point, and the City has since been able to maintain 5,000 customers on a 10GB port thanks to Cogent’s rate. The City claims that because they are in the business of selling Internet connection, it is important for them to work with Cogent.
The City of Monroe is a small city located about an hour west of Atlanta Georgia. Among the services it offers its residents are utilities, including electric, cable television, broadband cable internet, voice over IP phone service, natural gas, water, and wastewater services. In order to ensure it could provide consistent internet access to its subscribers, the City’s Utilities Department wanted to connect to a Tier 1 Network. They chose Cogent as their service provider due to its affordable price point, and connected to Cogent’s fiber network via a carrier neutral facility in Atlanta in 2011. Since then, the City has been able to maintain 5,000 customers on a 10GB port thanks to Cogent’s high quality and low price.
